Bruce Conway

Bruce Conway is widely respected in Southland and Central Otago, and across NZ. He is known in the south through his former Alpha Outdoors roles as outdoor educator for school camps, professional development trainer/mentor for Otago University College of Education (Southland Campus), Outdoor Recreation tutor for SIT degree, diploma and certificate programmes, Paddles Up pioneer, and adviser/trainer on developing and refining Education Outside the Classroom programmes.

From 2004-2011, Bruce was Scripture Union’s NZ Director of Camps responsible for over 30 holiday camps and volunteer leader training events nationally. In addition, he has worked successfully as an adviser/trainer with national bodies such as Skills Active, NZOIA, A Rocha, MSC and CCNZ.

Having passed on the outdoor instruction aspect of his business, Bruce is now available to work with the staff and management of schools, tertiary institutions, adventure tourism operations and youth organisations to enhance their ability to deliver quality learning and outdoor experiences.

Bruce has a wealth of experience in the specialist fields of Education Outside the Classroom, Outdoor Education, Environmental Education and Leadership Development, plus he has credibility with Science and Geography HoDs. He holds multiple NZOIA (NZ Outdoor Instructors Association) qualifications – Rock/Abseil 1, Bush 2, Whitewater Kayak 1 and Sea-kayak 1, plus other nationally-recognised instructor qualifications such as Club Sailing Instructor (YNZ) and Advanced Adventure-Based Learning (PA-USA). He is an assessor for both NZOIA and Skills Active.

Your educational institution, adventure tourism operation, youth organisation or business can now take advantage of his expertise and collaborative style, especially if you are situated in the lower South Island. Through his networks from around NZ, Bruce is also able to bring in associates with special skills and wisdom.
